If you’re new to Detroit — or new to Amateur Radio and live in Detroit, we welcome you! We think you’ll find our repeaters friendly, accepting and interested in helping you as a newcomer — be it to Detroit, or to Amateur Radio itself.
If you’re looking to figure out the basics of Amateur Radio, but you’re not licensed yet, there are several resources for you! The Livonia Amateur Radio Club is one of Metro Detroit’s largest social clubs that meets monthly [except summers] and also has testing sessions available. It’s central location, size and activity level makes Livonia’s club a prime starter for beginners! There are many more to chose from, too! The American Radio Relay League (or “ARRL,” for short) has many resources as well, for new and potential radio amateurs, and indeed, the ARRL sends out a free “goodie bag” for each newly licensed amateur within a couple of months. They also have a dedicated section for those wondering “What IS ham radio, anyway, and why should it interest me?”
If you’re new to the area, give us a shout on the air! If you’re new to Amateur Radio, and are interested in knowing more, feel free to contact the webmaster, using the contact form below. We’re glad to give you some pointers!
